20 May 2017 - UNIC partnered with the Belong TT and Silver Lining Foundation to host a film screening and meet and greet at the Centre's conference room. The event brought together the UN staff with human rights activists and allies of the lesbian, gay,  bi-sexual, transgender and intersex community in Trinidad , St. Lucia and Suriname.

People spoke about the challenges they faced as activists and the painful experiences of stigma and discrimination, but they also spoke about the work that they do despite the resistance and negativity of society and the failure of social services to support fundamental needs. The activists did recognise that there is some positive change in some  people's attitudes towards LGBTI persons but says that this region still has a long way to go in achieving equality.
