His Excellency Mr. Volkan Bozkir of Turkey will preside over the 75th session of the General Assembly (UNGA), which opens at 3 pm (GMT -4)  on Tuesday, 15 September 2020.

UNGA Press kit includes a biography of the incoming President, background on the 75th session of the General Assembly, and a list of past presidents.

The General Debate convenes from Tuesday, 22 September to Saturday, 26 September, and Tuesday, 29 September 2020, under the theme,  “The future we want, the United Nations we need: reaffirming our collective commitment to multilateralism – confronting COVID-19 through effective multilateral action”.  As agreed by Member States earlier in 2020, within its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, world leaders have been invited to submit pre-recorded videos of their speeches.  These statements are to be introduced by high-level representatives present in the General Assembly Hall and broadcast “as live” to a global audience.

UN News Centre (6 September 2020): “Quiet corridors but a full programme at virtual UNGA75: five things you need to know.”

This year’s High-Level events will commemorate the United Nations at 75 (Monday 21 September) and the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women (Thursday 1 October), and will also address peace and security, financing for development, climate action and the Sustainable Development Goals.
